Links and access

Protect a link with a PIN

Add a 6–12 digit PIN to a signed-in, single-file share.

When to use a PIN

Use a PIN when a link could be forwarded or posted in the wrong place. Send the link and PIN through different channels when practical.

Set the PIN before upload

  1. Sign in and select one file.
  2. Enable PIN protection.
  3. Enter a 6–12 digit code that is not easy to guess.
  4. Upload and copy the protected share link.

PIN attempts are rate-limited

Repeated incorrect claims are rate-limited. Astral stores a salted digest rather than the plaintext PIN.

Note: Support cannot reveal a forgotten PIN. Create a new share instead.
