The desktop app receives only the access it needs. Upload policy, plan limits, storage accounting, and final publication remain enforced by Astral's server.

Browser authorization

A one-time PKCE challenge connects an already verified Astral account over a random local callback.

Local credential storage

The revocable 30-day device session is encrypted with Windows DPAPI through Electron safeStorage—not placed in renderer storage or a copied API key.

Exact-byte uploads

Astral reserves your plan quota before issuing a scoped resumable upload URL and verifies the object before publishing a link.

Verified updates

electron-updater accepts only Astral's HTTPS release feed. Every installer is pinned to an immutable Firebase generation and checked against its declared SHA-512 before installation.

    Download the Electron installer

    Use the download button on this page. Astral pins the exact Firebase generation, package size, SHA-256, and Electron SHA-512 for every release.

  2. 02

    Run Astral Setup

    Open the per-user NSIS installer. Windows can show a SmartScreen confirmation while this new publisher builds reputation; continue only with the installer downloaded from astrls.com.

  3. 03

    Connect your Astral account

    The app opens astrls.com in your browser and returns a one-time PKCE authorization. Your password never enters the desktop app.

  4. 04

    Choose updates, then send

    Use Check for updates for an immediate electron-updater check, turn Auto updates on or off, then drop files into Astral or send from Explorer and pause, resume, cancel, or copy the finished link.
